The Lottie is made from Liberty Fabrics, one of the most celebrated textile houses in the world, whose hand-drawn prints have been coveted for over a century of British artistic tradition.
The Blue Lockets print, in soft blues, sage and olive scattered across cream, is made up of little hearts and treasured things. It is the kind of print a girl studies rather than just glances at, and loves more each time she does.
The bodice is manually smocked using traditional artisanal techniques, worked by skilled European artisans in threads that echo the sage and lavender of the print. Row after row of gathered pleats, formed and held by hand. The smocking does not sit on top of this dress, it grows out of it. This work alone takes many hours. There is no shortcut to it, and that is precisely the point.
Inside the lining, a message hand-embroidered in blue thread by the artisan who made it: "This hand embroidered dress is unique and special, just like you." Left there as a gentle reminder, just for her.
The hem has been cut generously to let it down when the time comes, and wear it a little longer. A dress made this carefully deserves more than one chapter.
